Rochester is located in the Upstate (northwest) region of New York State. It is bordered on the north by Lake Ontario, on the south by the Erie Canal, and is bisected by the Genesee River, all making for unique recreational opportunities. This city of 220,000, in a metropolitan area of 1,000,000 is a cultural center boasting numerous museums, live theaters, and universities, including The University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology. Rochester is a major manufacturing town, being the home of Eastman Kodak, Xerox, and Bausch and Lomb.
The weather in Rochester varies widely with the season, reaching 28oC in the summer and averaging 5oC in February. You will delight in the summer parks and water activities, or in winter skiing or sledding. You will always find plenty to do from shopping, to festivals, to sports. Niagara Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world, is only an hour drive away. You will find the people friendly and the diversity of the area memorable for many years to come.
